WinEdt is used as a front-end for compilers and typesetting systems, such as TeX or HTML. WinEdt's highlighting schemes can be customized for different modes and its spell checking functionality supports multi-lingual setups, with dictionaries (word-lists) for many languages available for downloading from WinEdt's Community Site winedt dot org. Contributions are welcome!

Although WinEdt is reasonably suitable as an all-purpose text editor it has been specifically designed and configured to integrate seamlessly with a TeX System (such as MiKTeX or TeX Live). WinEdt documentation does not cover TeX related topics in depth. You'll find introductions and manuals on typesetting with [La]TeX, as well as links to other recommended accessories, on TeX's Community Site (TUG).

Major new features in WinEdt 9:

WinEdt 9 comes with new pre-compiled Office 2013-style (high quality) set of (over 500) icons in four sizes: 16x16, 24x24, 32x32,and 48x48. They are available in %B\Bitmaps\Resources\WRLib32(dim).dll files. Users with high resolution displays will see significant improvement regarding the quality of graphic resources!

Today's computers come with displays at various resolutions ranging from 96dpi on older monitors to 192dpi on the Ultra HD displays. A single set of 16x16 images is not suitable for all resolutions. That's why a single configuration section [IMAGE_RESOURCES] to manage all resolution-dependent image resources has been introduced in this version. Here you can make images used in your toolbar(s) larger or smaller.

There are 32-bit and 64-bit versions of WinEdt 9. Users with 64-bit Windows can install either. Configurations and functionality of both versions are identical. The only difference is that WinEdt.exe is compiled as a native 32-bit or 64-bit Windows application, respectively. In the long run all applications will use a 64-bit platform but currently 32-bit applications run well on 64-bit Windows and not all applications offer a stable 32-bit version yet... 64-bit applications can launch 32-bit ones and vice versa. That's why both versions of WinEdt will work with either 32-bit or 64-bit version of MiKTeX...

And there is more... As always, plenty of work has gone into this version of WinEdt and every aspect of the code, documentation, and default settings has been revised and improved for this release. See WinEdt 9 Change Log below for details...

WinEdt 9.1

WinEdt 9.1 is now the official version of the program. It supports (customizable) code folding, it is unicode-capable, and it integrates seamlessly with the latest accessories and TeX Systems (such as MiKTeX 2.9 and TeX Live 2014). It has been extensively tested under Windows 7, 8.0, and 8.1 (32-bit and 64-bit). Furthermore, WinEdt 9 is compatible with Windows High Contrast Schemes and it is dpi-aware: it automatically adjusts its GUI to (ultra) high resolution displays. WinEdt 9 comes with new high-quality graphic resources at different sizes (suitable for different display resolutions)...
