The free Text Sharp extension lets you adjust text clarity in Visual Studio 2017, Visual Studio 2015, Visual Studio 2013 and Visual Studio 2012 IDEs (Professional, Premium, Ultimate and LightSwitch). You can select Aliased, Grayscale or ClearType text rendering mode for Visual Studio menu, tabs and editor windows. An easy way to turn off ClearType. (Aliased rendering looks terrible when text scale is changed from default 100% in text views, so Text Sharp doesn't override VS settings when Aliased+Display is selected and zoom level is not 100%.)

If you like ClearType, you can experiment with Ideal text formatting and Animated text hinting that remove fonts hammering into pixels.

You can selectively apply the new text rendering mode only to the main Visual Studio window or to the code editor. Just check corresponding Targets options:
