1. General Examination

This is the first of a series of presentations on clinical examination. A General Examination of the Patient is a preliminary and important step before focusing into one of the body systems. The student is guided through a virtual classroom environment enhanced with live footage, graphic images, animations, pictures of pathologies, sound recordings and revision tables, starting from basic considerations to more advanced clinical techniques.

2. Respiratory System Examination

The respiratory tree starts from the nose and mouth and finishes at the alveoli. The student is guided through a virtual classroom environment enhanced with live footage, graphic images, animations, pictures of pathologies, sound recordings and revision tables, starting from basic considerations to more advanced clinical techniques.

3. Cardiovascular Examination

This presentation starts with an effective review of the anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system. It is enhanced with the use of specially designed graphic images, animations and summary slides. It starts with general inspection of the hands and face and how external features may reflect internal pathologies relating to the cardiovascular system. The presentation proceeds in a step-by-step evaluation of the patient, focusing on the heart and circulatory tree.

4. Abdominal Examination

This presentation starts with an effective review of the anatomy and physiology of the gastrointestinal system. It is enhanced with the use of specially designed graphic images, animations and summary slides. It starts with general inspection of the hands and face and how external features may reflect internal pathologies relating to the gastrointestinal system. The presentation proceeds in a step-by-step evaluation of the patient, focusing on the abdomen and pelvic regions.

5. Peripheral Nervous System Examination

Examination of this complex system is often viewed with trepidation by most students. This is due to a number of reasons and in particular; a clear understanding of the neuroanatomy, the application of clinical skills and the interpretation of findings. In this presentation we take you in a simplified step-by-step approach beginning with a review of the anatomy. Making use of many specially designed images and animations we take you on an anatomical journey from the cerebral cortex, to the spinal tracts, the principal plexii, peripheral nerves their course and distribution until they supply their effector structures.

6. Cranial Nerves Examination

7. Case History Taking and Differential Diagnosis

Case History taking forms the first major component in the process of arriving at a diagnosis. Taking a concise and focused case history requires good listening, interpersonal and analytical skills. In most cases the clinician would have developed their differential diagnosis on case history alone. Subsequent clinical examination and further diagnostic procedures must be based on the identification of emerging themes that will eventually give rise to the most probable diagnosis(es). The process of focused case history inquiry and the development of differential diagnosis is demonstrated in a unique and innovative approach by analyzing the progress of real clinical encounters.
