EmEditor is a fast, lightweight, yet extensible, easy-to-use text editor for Windows. Both native 64-bit and 32-bit builds are available! The text editor supports powerful macros, Unicode, and very large files. Emurasoft’s timeless mission is to achieve our clients’ needs and wants by listening to them with empathy and expertise. We value timely customer support, and are honored to have distinguished users, including major corporations, educational institutions, institutions of the European Union, ministries of Japan, and governments from all over the world.

EmEditor provides syntax highlighting for 20 different languages, including C++, Java, HTML, Perl, Python, and many more. You can also easily create your own customized highlighting rules.

EmEditor Professional includes predefined colored-text configurations for the following languages:
Bat, C#, C++, CSS, HTML, Ini, Java, jаvascript, JSP, Pascal (Delphi), Perl, PerlScript, PHP, Python, Ruby, SQL, TeX (LaTeX), VBScript, WindowsScript, x86 Assembler, XML, as well as basic text. You can also add more languages by downloading syntax files from the EmEditor Library. If you want to create your own syntax files, you can do so by adding a list of keywords to be highlighted.

Within the HTML configuration, text within ASP tags () and standard script tags is formatted according to which scripting language is specified in the LANGUAGE attribute (jаvascript, VBScript or PerlScript). Moreover, HTML-Embedded special syntax is available for JSP and PHP configurations.

No matter what programming language or file type you prefer to work with, EmEditor offers a dedicated environment for your work. Conveniently select a configuration for your language, including syntax highlighting and a preferred interface, or create your own custom configuration.

EmEditor’s configuration features allow you to set a huge variety of settings to customize your experience for each project you’re working on. From syntax highlighting, to numbering, from keyboard shortcuts, to auto-save settings, custom configurations can be set to fine-tune EmEditor’s performance for your needs.

EmEditor comes with built-in configurations for over 20 different programming and markup languages, selectable from the File menu. It’s easy to switch between, create new, and edit configurations. You can also download more syntax files from the EmEditor Library or create your own configurations and syntax highlighting rules.

While editing, you can associate file types with certain configurations so that EmEditor knows to automatically open up the right configuration, Define a New Configuration or edit the settings for the current or all configurations.

EmEditor easily opens up to 248 GB or 2.1 billion lines – whichever is reached first, when opening a file – with only a little memory. For files even larger than that, use the built-in Large File Controller.

EmEditor is built to agilely handle files of any size. When you ask it to open a file over a certain size (you choose the size), EmEditor will automatically start using temporary disk space rather than clogging up your memory, unlike most other text editors, which try to keep the whole file in memory and ultimately fail. By default, EmEditor uses temporary files when it opens a file larger than 300 MB. You can check and edit this size in the Advanced tab of the Customize dialog box. If you open a file larger than this size, a few highlighting features are disabled, including multiple-line comments. Wrapping modes are also disabled for optimal speed. If you are opening a file larger than this size, make sure there is enough disk space in the temporary file folder. The default temporary folder is the system temporary folder, specified by the %TEMP% environment variable. You can override the temporary folder to any folder you would like, that has enough space available.

EmEditor’s multithreaded design allows you to view documents during the opening of a large file. A status window appears during most time-consuming activities such as text editing, saving, searching, replacing, inserting and deleting, which allows you to monitor and cancel those activities at any time.
